Carrie Underwood‘s celebrity status makes her seem almost untouchable, but she’s not afraid to admit that, just like every other human being, she has flaws. The singer recently opened up in the cover issue of Marie Claire and explained just exactly what her idiosyncrasies are — and why they don’t make her a sociopath.
“We were never a huggy family. Or a ‘let’s talk it out’ family,” the singer reveals. “Technically I have siblings, but they are quite a bit older than me — I was the accident — so I have the only-child syndrome going on. I’m a little more selfish, a little more independent, a little closed.”
“I do wish I were softer,” she admits. “I wish I were able to form relationships better. But hey, I mean …” she pauses, laughing, “I’m not a sociopath.”
In fact, the songstress’ tendency to be a more independent and not super touchy-feely translated to a difficult transition at the grassroots of her brand new singing career.
“At the beginning of my career, I used to have panic attacks,” she shares. “People were touching me, screaming – it made me really nervous. In public, I just get nervous. It’s a physical reaction, feeling like the walls are closing in.”
“The fans are great. It’s not their fault,” Underwood clarifies. “I don’t ever want to come across as ungrateful. But on my end, it is hard for me to process. Because I am still just me.”
The ‘Two Black Cadillacs’ superstar accepts that perhaps she’s not always the greatest friend when it comes to her personal relationships. “I’m probably not great at talking or understanding emotional things. I’ll totally listen. But I won’t have a lot of advice to give,” she spills. “I’m bad at calling to check in, the long conversation. But in the ways that really matter, I’m there. I would donate a kidney. The people they hate, I hate.”
While the singer is composed in every performance — whether it’s a heartfelt ballad on her old stomping grounds of ‘American Idol’ or a dramatic No. 1 hit — she isn’t always completely put together, according to her hockey playing husband, Mike Fisher. In fact, he calls her ”the queen of awkward moments: and says that his wife “is brutally honest sometimes. She doesn’t know how to hide her feelings.”
In Underwood’s words, “Anything that can be made awkward, I will make it awkward.”
In spite of not being a people person — her mom’s words — Underwood is still an inspiration to so many. In fact, her honesty in opening up about her flaws just adds to the great respect that millions of fans already have for her.
On ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!,’ the late night TV host makes celebrities read mean tweets that regular people have sent out into the Twitterverse about them. This particular batch of nasty, 140-characters-or-less transmissions included country music’s own Brad Paisley and Kid Rock.
The tweet about Paisley was extra mean, filled with lots of “f” bombs and bleeps. Paisley certainly had a sense of humor about it — which is pretty much par for the course with the superstar, known for his love of pranking tourmates. He offered up a crooked smirk as he read the tweet, and the look on his face was priceless, to say nothing of hilarious.
Kid Rock’s personal odor was in question in the tweet sent his direction, and he had an answer for it, which was pretty hysterical, as well.
It’s always refreshing when celebs have a sense of humor about themselves, as clearly, Paisley and Kid Rock do! Jessica Alba, Russell Brand, Andy Samberg and more also read mean tweets, so it wasn’t just country acts getting picked on.
It just goes to show you that what you send out into the digital universe may very well end up in front of a celeb, so be careful what you tweet.

Power couple Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton have said before that a baby in their family is a few years away, but they may be re-thinking their stance on a little bundle of joy in their household, as rumors regarding a Lambert-Shelton baby have recently surfaced.
“Miranda has been super busy touring — and Blake’s got his own three-month tour starting in July — but after this summer she says she wants to slow down and focus on having a baby,” a source tells Hollywood Life.
Of course, it may just be another baby rumor, as anything not coming directly from the country stars’ mouths is likely to be embellished, just as the divorce rumors thankfully were shot down in a hurry. But country fans certainly all ears when it comes to the couple’s baby plans.
The unnamed source adds, “Blake says he’s ready too. Actually, if it were up to him, they’d already have [a kid] running around.” The ‘Sure Be Cool if You Did’ hitmaker has recently opened up about their family plans, and perhaps Lambert and Shelton are warming up to the idea of having a few little ‘boys ’round here,’ or girls, for that matter.
The singers both lead very busy lives, so only time will tell if they’re thinking about adding to their happy, pet-filled family. One thing’s for sure: The couple will stick together through thick and thin, with or without babies, providing a great example of committed love to the whole entertainment industry.
Actor Ashton Kutcher has caused another ruckus at a country music event. Last year, he incited the ire of Miranda Lambert at the 2012 ACM Awards by showing up to present her with an award in exaggerated and somewhat hokey cowboy attire while singing a line from a George Strait song. On top of that, the actor was involved in a scuffle with security at Stagecoach, a country festival held in Indio, Calif., on Saturday (April 27).
TMZ reports that Kutcher and a fan were hassled by security. Apparently the actor, clad in a black ten-gallon hat and a white tee, was in the VIP area checking out Nick 13 and Dwight Yoakam when a female fan approached him to exchange pleasantries. He went to oblige her, but security stepped in and shoved them both, which was perhaps an extreme way to react.
Eyewitnesses claim that Kutcher didn’t start the fracas, and that the security guard was a bit too big for his britches and out of line in how he handled it. Kutcher and the guard reportedly went at it, violently shoving each other.
Kutcher’s pals had to step in and restrain him. The ‘Two and a Half Men’ star eventually left Stagecoach of his own accord, even though the guard had requested his ejection.
The actor is clearly a country music fan, although that status was in dispute after the 2012 ACMs. He presented Lambert with the 2012 Female Vocalist of the Year award, but she was not amused by his attire or his vocal rendition of ‘I Cross My Heart.’ She took to Twitter to suggest he was making fun of the genre, and she took his actions as an affront.
They eventually kissed and made up at the Kentucky Derby in May of last year, with Lambert essentially tweeting that she believes Kutcher is tried and true, and a real fan of the genre. That’s obvious, since he spent his Saturday in the blazing hot Cali desert, trying to enjoy the genre’s offerings and had to deal with a security guard all up in his grill.
Pop country superstar Taylor Swift is getting to be quite the real estate mogul. Just over a month after selling her Cape Cod-style house in Hyannis Port, Mass. for a profit of nearly one million dollars, the 23-year old star turned around and purchased an enormous mansion in Rhode Island for $17 million — and paid in cash.
Swift sold the house in Massachusetts after breaking up with Conor Kennedy. According to TMZ, she had been looking around for a new place, and toured the 11,000-square-foot-plus home in Rhode Island on April 15. The asking price was around $24 million, but Swift talked the sellers down to the low, low price of $17,750,000. She reportedly wired over the money after the deal was reached. Movers were seen at the house on Saturday.
The singer’s new abode — which sits high on a bluff overlooking the ocean on 5.23 acres — is a historic home built in 1930, designed by “an eminent Philadelphia architect.” The real estate listing for the property said it was “thought to be the highest point of direct waterfront land on the entire Eastern seaboard, from Florida to Southern New England.” The home boasts eight bedrooms, 10.5 baths, and eight fireplaces.
Other amenities include a 36-foot-long parlor, a 45-foot-long paneled sun room, and an octagonal dining room with built in china cabinets. There is also an enormous kitchen outfitted with a Sub-Zero refrigerator, a warming drawer and wine cooler, along with an adjoining sitting/family room. On top of that, the mansion boasts a five-car heated garage, a recreation room, numerous balconies and — of course! – a bra-shaped swimming pool.
Swift’s other real estate holdings include a compound in Beverly Hills, a penthouse condo in Nashville, and a mansion in a gated community in Nashville, where Swift’s parents are rumored to live.
What happens when you put country star Kenny Chesney and comedian Ellen DeGeneres together? You get lots of laughter and a whole lot of fun, plus a lot of drinking.
The country singer recently appeared on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ to promote his upcoming album, and DeGeneres told Chesney, who recently announced the launch of his own Blue Chair Bay Premium Rum, that they were going to play a game, and unveiled a tray of shot glasses, which she explained were filled with either rum or water.
The singer replied, “A game? Looks dangerous … and fun!” Basically, the game entailed the ‘Pirate Flag’ singer answering true or false questions, and if he answered correctly, he needed to choose one of the shot glasses (without smelling it) and throw back a shot. ”You never know if you’re going to have a shot of rum or water,” the comedian explained.
Of course, the game was slightly rigged, as it began with the “true or false” question of “Your name is Kenny Chesney.” As Chesney laughed and was handed a glass, he exclaimed, “Oh oh, it’s not water!” Another game statement was equally hilarious, as Ellen read, “Your new CD that’s coming out on April 30th is great.”
Fortunately for the singer, it was a short game, and ended before things got too crazy. With the country crooner’s new album, ‘Life on a Rock‘ set to hit the streets at the end of the month, and his nonstop No Shoes Nation Tour, Chesney’s lighthearted time with Ellen was probably a welcome reprieve from his busy schedule.
