After a very out-of-the-box performance at the 2013 CMA Awards, Eric Church is speaking out about the country music label.
On country music’s biggest night, Church performed his new single, ‘The Outsiders,’ for the very first time and introduced fans to a very different sound for him. The performance was rock ‘n roll with a side of country, but the singer doesn’t think people should be so quick to label the song.
“I think genres are dead,” the singer shares (quote via CMT). “There’s good music. There’s bad music.”
His opinion seems to be catching on, too. Taylor Swift is a big hit on pop radio. Hunter Hayes’ new song, ‘Everybody’s Got Somebody But Me,’ is a collaboration with pop musician Jason Mraz — these are just two examples, albeit two very high-profile examples.
Church says we can thank Nashville for a lot of this.
“And I think the cool thing about Nashville is it is at the epicenter of that kind of thinking,” he explains. “I’m a country music artist in Nashville, but Nashville is way, way, way bigger than country music.”
The ‘Drink in My Hand’ singer seems to love Music City and says it helped his dreams come true. In his words, “If you’re passionate enough about what you do, if you’re good enough at what you do, all your dreams can come true in this town.”
Prices for the country music getaway of a lifetime have been slashed. Effective immediately, fans of Dierks Bentley, Jana Kramer, Billy Currington and Brantley Gilbert (plus sunshine, the beach and relaxation) can take in this Mexican vacay for under $1,000 per person -- a 33 percent discount!

Kelly Clarkson just tied the knot with Brandon Blackstock in a beautiful, private wedding, and now that the white dress is packed away, everyone’s wondering when the songstress will stock up on maternity clothes.
Clarkson appeared on ‘The Tonight Show’ on Monday (Nov. 11), and although Jay Leno grilled her with pregnancy questions, she managed to dodge them — with giggles and some pretty hilarious answers. However, she did confirm that a baby is on the country couple’s agenda.
“We are not announcing anything right now! We’re not, no,” the stepmother of two says of any news she and Blackstock might have under wraps.
Clarkson is definitely planning on having kids soon, even admitting recently that she’s reading books and concentrating on keeping her body healthy inside and out — and that’s good, considering she wants not one, not two, but five kids!
“We have two kids. And they’re so great,” the songstress shares. “I never wanted kids before, but now I want, like, five.” Adds the 31-year-old, “Practice makes perfect! We’re trying, trying, trying … like rabbits!”
Hopefully, with a lot of practice, they’ll ace the test — and announce a bundle of joy in the new year!

The country stars tied the knot on Sunday, Nov. 10 on Captiva Island, Fla. It was obvious the nuptials were imminent, as in October Atkins hinted that he’d be getting married next month, though he didn’t offer much more in the way of detail.
The ceremony was intimate — only 20 guests were in attendance. Atkins’ son Elijah served in the all-important role of Best Man. Charles Hutchins — founder of the Holston United Methodist Home for Children, where Atkins spent his infancy prior to being adopted — was the officiant.
During the ceremony, Atkins and Falcon recognized the 51st anniversary of Allen and Margaret Atkins by presenting Margaret with a three-carat aquamarine ring. That particular stone was chosen because it is Rodney’s birthstone. Needless to say, careful thoughts were put into all aspects of the wedding.
Falcon proved to be a crafty and creative bride, fashioning some of the decorations herself, such as the wedding programs that were made from CD cases. Each female guest was gifted with a handmade bracelet, too. Male guests weren’t left out, as they received custom hats matching the baseball cap worn by Atkins.
The couple threw a pre-wedding bash on Saturday (Nov. 9), where friends and family spent the day fishing the waters surrounding Captiva.
Post-nuptials, the bride and groom returned to Nashville and will continue on the Most Hits for the Money Tour with Frankie Ballard in lieu of a honeymoon. It’s not that they’re not romantic — hardly.
“Our life is a honeymoon,” the couple insists.
