It doesn’t seem like it would be possible for a country singer to capture his or her personality in a simple lyric video. But somehow, Miranda Lambert overcame the odds when she released a quirky video that spells out every word to her tune ‘Mama’s Broken Heart.’
Although we’re pretty sure the words in the video aren’t written in Lambert’s own handwriting, the scrawling black letters and important words capitalized in bold, red writing match up with the fun. but dramatic, tone of the song. The video is also scattered with snippets of eyeshadow, lipstick and powder, a girl looking in the mirror, dancing flames, bullet shells and a string of pearls that hammer home the theatrical nature of the tune.
‘Mama’s Broken Heart’ is the fourth single from Lambert’s 2011 album, ‘Four the Record.’ However, the fact that it wasn’t her first release doesn’t mean it isn’t one of her favorite songs on the record. Lambert told Taste of Country that this is the one song on the album that she absolutely can’t live without because she relates so closely to the main character in the song.
“I just thought it was so unique,” she explains. “When a song hits me like, ‘Man, I wish I would have written that,’ then I know that it’s special.”
Somehow, the word-heavy ‘Mama’s Broken Heart’ lyric video is the perfect reminder that sometimes, breakups can drive a scorned lover a little bit crazy. And when that happens, you have to put your face back on and fake it until you make it, so to speak.
Spitfire country star Miranda Lambert makes no secret of the fact that she’s no fan of Chris Brown, and in a new interview with Redbook magazine, she reiterates her repeated criticism of the rapper, saying, “He beat a girl…not cool that we act like that didn’t happen.”
Lambert’s public war of words with Brown began after he performed at the 2012 Grammys. It was his first appearance at the most important awards show in the business since he served probation for physically abusing his then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009, and Lambert made it clear she was not impressed.
“I don’t get it. He beat on a girl,” she tweeted, adding seconds later, “Not cool that we act like that didn’t happen. He needs to listen to Gunpowder and Lead and be put back in his place. Not at the Grammys.”
Lambert continued her rant against Brown at a concert, holding up a poster from a fan that read, “Take notes, Chris Brown” before launching into her song ‘Gunpowder and Lead,’ which tells the story of an abused woman who is waiting to greet her returning abuser with a dose of buckshot. “Beatin’ up on a woman is never OK, so that’s why my daddy taught me early on in life how to use a shotgun,” Lambert told her audience.
Brown responded publicly via Twitter, though he didn’t mention Lambert’s name. “Using my name to get publicity? I love it! Perform your heart out!” he wrote.
Though Rihanna and Brown are reportedly back together, Lambert clearly still hasn’t forgiven him for his transgressions. “I wanted everyone to know that I don’t agree with the message it’s sending to young women. It’s not okay. At all,” she emphasizes. “To be celebrated after doing something like that. I don’t think it’s right, I never will, and I will stand by what I said till the day I die.”
In an interview with CMT Radio Live’s Cody Alan set to air next Tuesday (Jan. 15), the ‘Whiskey’ singer shares that she is indeed living with her country superstar boyfriend, and that Gilbert even chips in on the mortgage each month.
“I actually bought the house, and he is living with me, yes,” the gorgeous singer says of her new living situation (quote via Country Weekly). The pair picked out their new residence together, but did not purchase the property jointly.
“He’s paying his little monthly rent,” jokes Kramer.
It seems to be smooth sailing for the young superstar couple, who confirmed their relationship last September. However, their disjointed closet space may be a point of contention in their steadfast relationship.
“It’s hilarious,” Kramer confesses. “You walk in and to the right are all my colors and sparkly clothes and then Brantley has the left side of the closet and it’s all black. Actually, I take that back. I bought him four red shirts, and they stick out like a sore thumb.”
Rumors of the couple’s new living arrangement were sparked following news that Kramer had placed her quaint Nashville home for sale last month. A host of media sites clamored to tidbits of information — even before the two superstars made an official announcement.
“I am really happy,” Kramer says when speaking of her love life. “[Brantley] is so wonderful, I cannot stop smiling around him. He surprises me with gifts ‘just because.’”
Quality alone time in their new love nest looks to be a reality for the usually busy country superstars. Combined, the two singers have a handful of tour dates scheduled through the end of February.
The New York Post is reporting that just days after the couple’s highly-publicized kiss on New Year’s Eve, Swift ended a trip to the British Virgin Islands by herself after having arrived with Styles on Jan. 1. She was photographed leaving without him, looking blue. The pop boybander, on the other hand, went on to party with Richard Branson on Necker Island before returning to the U.K.
The Business Insider reports that the Swift and Styles breakup was spawned by a heated argument before she left. The country singer is being predictably quiet about the incident, aside from one curious tweet, which reads: “…’til you put me down.” What’s equally as suspicious is the fact that that’s a line from her song ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ (“Flew me to places I’d never been / ’til you put me down”), which is rumored to be about the One Direction member.
Swift and Styles had been spending time together for over a month, and things seemed to heat up before Christmas. Previously, she was dating Conor Kennedy.
What do Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Jana Kramer have in common, besides being stunningly beautiful and infinitely talented country stars? Well, these three lovely (and leggy) ladies were named to the Men’s Health list of ‘Hottest Women of 2013.’
We certainly agree with the two blondes and the brunette being appointed to such a list. They’re all drop dead gorgeous and unique in their own way.
There were 100 beautiful women included on the list.
Swift landed just outside the Top 10, sitting pretty at No. 12, and we’re guessing that her boyfriend, One Direction‘s Harry Styles, thinks she should have nabbed a higher position. Remove the number 2, right?
Underwood was inside the Top 25, landing in the No. 24 slot, while up ‘n’ comer Kramer snatched up the No. 59 position on the list.
In case you were curious, pop diva Katy Perry took the top slot on this prestigious list, which was populated by singers and actreses.
Congrats to our country gals Taylor, Carrie and Jana. We’ve long been aware of their beauty and their talent. It’s great to see a men’s magazine give them the thumb up, too.
Swift, who just turned 23 on Dec. 13, joins the ranks of pop heavyweights Justin Bieber, Adele, Bruno Mars and Marcus Mumford (of Mumford & Sons) on the year-end countdown, which measures the social and financial relevance of young professionals in 15 different categories.
Earlier this year, Swift was named the wealthiest celebrity under 30 by Forbes, earning a jaw-dropping $57 million in income between May 2011 and May 2012. The singer knocked Lady Gaga from No. 1 — she held the top-earner title the previous year.
The country music superstar, who recently snagged six World Music Awards nominations, will no doubt remain a strong competitor on Forbes’ tally leading into 2013. Swift’s latest studio album, ‘Red,’ has sold more than three million copies worldwide in just two months — enough to make the collection of the the top sellers in all of 2012.
She is also set to embark on her headlining 2013 Red Tour in March, and will play more than 60 shows before wrapping the road excursion in Nashville next September. With a reported $1 million paid per show, it’s likely to expect Swift on next year’s countdown as well.
In an effort to make sense of the gruesome shooting that took place on Friday morning (Dec. 14) in Newtown, Conn., coaches on ‘The Voice’ — including country’s Blake Shelton — performed a touching tribute on the show on Monday. Backed by a large chorus, the group of talented singers belted out ‘Hallelujah.’
The song began with a shot of white candles flickering in the dark as a guitar strummed in the background. After a few chords, Shelton’s voice rang out the first words of the legendary tune while holding a card that read ‘Emilie Parker, 6.’ Behind him, the rest of the coaches from ‘The Voice,’ host Carson Daly and finalists from every season of the show stood silently holding cards with the names of victims inscribed on them.
After Shelton made it through the first half of the first verse, Adam Levine picked up and finished it off. By the time the chorus began, there couldn’t have been a dry eye in the house — although the performers managed to keep it together. The entire choir of 26 people sang together in harmony.
Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera picked up the second verse, and the chorus chimed in with a round of ‘hallelujahs’ once more before the song quietly faded out. As the camera panned back, viewers could see that 26 candles were lit in remembrance of the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting victims.
The tribute was only about two minutes long, but the reverent tone and somber mood with which the performers sang made it clear that NBC wanted to put everything aside for a few moments and remember those who lost their lives too soon.
Jason Aldean is already known as a country music superstar, but he has a bucket list wish that may lead to stardom in another area of entertainment.
"I may dabble in some things," the Georgia native tells ABC News Radio. "Movies or whatever, maybe here and there."
The "Take a Little Ride" singer admits it's a bit intimidating to think of branching out into the Hollywood world. "It's one of those things where if I do a movie, I don't even know if I'm any good," Jason says. "So, I may do one and it sucks and I'm a horrible actor, and I'll never do another one."
One thing he knows, if he does add acting to his resume, he would be drawn to more dramatic roles. "I'm a fan of shows like 'Criminal Minds' and 'The Mentalist' and shows like that -- thriller kind of things," he says. "We'll see. Whatever comes along."
Jason would be far from the first country music superstar who extends their talents to the big screen. Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift, Toby Keith, LeAnn Rimes and Carrie Underwood are among the list of artists who have already made their film debuts.
While his future as a movie star remains uncertain, Jason will be on TV screens all over the country on Dec. 31. The married father of two has joined the star-studded line-up for "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2013." Previously announced artists for the live broadcast include Taylor Swift, OneRepublic, Justin Bieber, Pitbull and PSY.
"Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2013" will air live at 10:00 PM ET on ABC.
